I received the following from my friend Heather, with whom I share a particular fondness for gerunds. Actually, I have no idea if Heather is as fond of gerunds as I am. And really, it’s just the *word* “gerund” that I love. Not that I have anything AGAINST gerunds. I mean, as parts of speech, they’re fine. But they have a very cool name. Like ‘participle’, but with fewer syllables and more gutteral. If I have more children, I will name them after parts of speech, and the first boy child will be called Gerund.
